Open Text Collections is a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Its goal is the creation and publication of text collections.
The project “Open Text Collections” will create a publication platform for the publication of curated and edited texts of poorly documented languages. Along with grammars and dictionaries, text collections are one of the three elements of Boas' trilogy of language description. While digital, publicly accessible publication channels are already available for grammars and dictionaries, this is not the case for text collections. The Open Text Collections platform will produce at least 10 text collections during the three-year funding period. After the funding period, the platform will continue the publication independently.
For this purpose, Open Text Collections will create a sustainable and optimal workflow starting from the selection, preparation and contextualization of the texts, through to peer review, and finally to publication. The texts will be available as HTML, PDF and print-on-demand books. As a publishing partner, Open Text Collections cooperates with the open-access publisher Language Science Press. In addition, the text collections will be published in the form of a database (csv, json).
Open Text Collections works in close collaboration with the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (ELDP) and the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR). The project website with further information can be found here: http://opentextcollections.org
