Collection and storage of personal data as well as type and purpose and their use

The term "personal data" refers to all data that can be related to you personally. This includes, for example, your name, address, e-mail addresses and IP address.

Log files
Every time a user accesses the website of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and every time a file is retrieved, data about this process is temporarily stored and processed in a log file for technical reasons:

the IP address (anonymized immediately after access)
date and time
page accessed/name of the file accessed
amount of data transferred
message as to whether the access/retrieval was successful

The purpose of data collection is the mandatory protection against network attacks, the improvement of the service and the creation of usage statistics. This data is stored for one week.

The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. b GDPR (necessary to safeguard legitimate interests).

Cookies
When individual pages are accessed, so-called temporary cookies are used to facilitate navigation. These session cookies do not contain any personal data and expire at the end of the session.

Contact
If you contact us by e-mail, the data you send us with the e-mail will be stored. This personal data is processed solely for the purpose of dealing with your inquiries. The data will be deleted as soon as we have finally processed your inquiries. You can revoke the consent you have given us to process your personal data at any time.

Newsletter
You can subscribe to a free newsletter on our website. The BBAW newsletter provides you with the latest news from the Academy. To subscribe to the newsletter, you must provide the mandatory data requested by us:

If you provide further personal data when registering, this is voluntary. This data will be entered into a separate mailing list and stored permanently. You can revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. You can unsubscribe from the mailing list via the same page. Your data will then be deleted completely.

Ordering publications
On our website you can order or directly download central publications of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. If you would like to have the requested information sent to your home or office by post, please enter your personal or business address details here. In order to register to receive the publications, you must provide the mandatory data requested by us:

Registration for events
You can register for certain events via a separate URL for each event. When registering, you must provide mandatory data requested by us:

The purpose of this is to avert the risks that would arise from possible overcrowding at the event. For this purpose, a list of registered participants is compiled from the registrations. Access to the event is controlled on the basis of this list. After the end of the event, both this list and the underlying registration data will be deleted immediately and completely. If you provide further personal data when registering, this is voluntary. You can revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time.

Event information
You can receive regular information about the public events of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. When registering, you must provide the mandatory data requested by us:

If you provide further personal data when registering, this is voluntary. This data will be entered into a separate mailing list. The data will be stored until revocation/cancellation. You can revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. Event information is sent out regularly by e-mail. In each e-mail you will find a note on how to unsubscribe from the mailing list. After you unsubscribe, your data will be completely deleted.

Entry in the press distribution list
You can register for the press mailing list on our website. We will inform you about our events, research projects and publications. When registering, you must provide the mandatory data requested by us:

Your personal data will not be transferred to third parties. There is no automated decision-making or profiling. It is not intended that the data will be processed for purposes other than those mentioned.

Rights of data subjects
You have the following rights towards us with regard to the personal data concerning you:

in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR, to request information about your personal data processed by us
in accordance with Art. 16 GDPR, to immediately request the correction of incorrect or incomplete personal data stored by us
in accordance with Art. 17 GDPR, to request the erasure of your personal data stored by us (except in the cases specified in Art. 17 para. 3 GDPR)
in accordance with Art. 18 GDPR, to demand the restriction of the processing of your personal data if the accuracy of the data is disputed by you, the processing is unlawful, but you refuse to delete it and we no longer need the data, but you need it to assert, exercise or defend legal claims or you have lodged an objection to the processing
in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR; to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR. As a rule, you can contact the supervisory authority of your usual place of residence or our location.

Right of objection
Since your personal data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR, provided that there are reasons for this arising from your particular situation. Use of analysis tools and other tools such as Matomo (formerly Piwik), etc:

This website uses Matomo (formerly Piwik), an open source software for the statistical analysis of visitor access. Matomo does not use tracker cookies (it works with the function: Enforce tracking without cookies)!
The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing and before it is stored.
