Connect. Collaborate. Co-create.
AGYA is calling for new members from all fields of research!

The Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) is delighted to announce its Call for Membership Applications 2025, marking the beginning of its new funding by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Application deadline: 10 April 2025

AGYA encourages outstanding early-career scholars (3–10 years post-PhD) from the Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, Life Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts to apply for membership. With a commitment to the promotion of inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration, AGYA offers a unique platform for researchers to enhance their scientific careers, expand their academic networks and strengthen their leadership skills. Membership is granted for five years, followed by lifelong access to the AGYA alumni network. Eligible candidates must be affiliated with universities or research institutions in Germany or any of the 22 Arab countries, demonstrate research excellence, and show academic leadership potential.

Promoting inter- and transdisciplinary research
In today’s interconnected world, the complexity of challenges affecting all of us calls for fresh perspectives and integrated approaches. AGYA offers its members the support and funding to realise inter- and transdisciplinary research projects, and empowers early-career scholars to cross their disciplinary boundaries within the framework of Arab-German research cooperation. By bringing together experts from varied fields, the Academy creates a vibrant intellectual environment where innovative ideas can flourish. This collaborative approach strengthens knowledge creation and leads to impactful solutions that resonate within academia and society alike.

AGYA drives bilateral research for the benefit of societies
Six interdisciplinary working groups are at the core of AGYA’s research collaboration: Arab and German Education; Common Heritage and Common Challenges; Dynamics of Transformation, Energy, Water, and Environment; Health and Society; and Innovation. More than 50 AGYA members and a growing number of alumni/ae from 23 countries are conducting innovative research projects, advancing sustainable agriculture, fostering women's empowerment, tackling pressing medical issues or the protection of shared cultural heritage. AGYA enables its members to share their research results with diverse audiences through international science communication with interactive and creative formats.

Advancing science diplomacy through sustainable collaborations
AGYA serves as a bridge across borders, enabling dialogue and partnerships between researchers, policymakers, and societal stakeholders. Its members convene annually in both Germany and Arab countries, strengthening interdisciplinary exchanges and building long-term networks that advance academic civil society.

‘AGYA embarks on a new phase of inter-and transdisciplinary research funded by the German Federal Ministry of Higher Education and Research (BMBF) and further Arab and German institutions marking an inspiring new chapter in our mission to foster Arab-German collaboration in science, research, and innovation. The members and alumni of the academy work together to build trust and interregional competence networks, co-creating a new paradigm of impactful research’, says AGYA Principal Investigator Prof. Dr. Verena Lepper.
