Power and Piety: Religion, Politics and the University

PANEL DISCUSSION

05. November 2023

Akademiegebäude am Gendarmenmarkt, Leibniz-Saal, Markgrafenstraße 38, 10117 Berlin

The current global political environment raises questions about the interrelations between religion and politics, especially when looking at autocratic trends surfacing in Europe or in Israel. In this context, the responsibility of universities comes to the fore: they can explain and help to understand such phenomena and are able to suggest ways of confronting these new challenges.

The panel will refer to the wrong thought that religion must be anti-democratic and point to the democratic principles that must build the basis for any scientific development. Each of the panelists will contribute their personal expertise and experience how to cope with the current crises.
